TXU Energy will provide rebates totaling $150,000 to the City of McKinney to support EVs and other energy-efficiency improvements as part of its broader Energy Efficiency Rebate Program under a four-year contract signed with the city for electricity service.
The program, which requires a 24-month electricity service contract, enables customers to qualify for rebates by installing EV infrastructure, such as charging stations, and purchasing or converting to plug-in EVs.
The city’s charging stations, which will be located in the McKinney Senior Recreation Center, the Roy and Helen Hall Library located downtown, and the office buildings for the Development Services and Public Works departments, are slated to be fully operational in the first quarter of 2011.
In addition, the City of McKinney is working with TXU Energy to convert three existing city vehicles, Toyota Prius hybrids, into plug-in hybrid EVs under the EV Accelerator Program that has been to expedite widespread adoption of EVs and associated charging stations.
TXU Energy vice president of business markets Gabe Castro said that the City of McKinney wants to incorporate EVs and other energy-efficiency measures into their operations TXU Energy is glad to be able to leverage its rebate program to customize this energy savings solution for the city.
