BMC expects the replacement will result in over 65% savings in power.
The company is planning to donate the energy savings from solar-powered LED lighting systems to a remote village outside of Sakur India to light the streets and homes to the villagers.
BMC research and development site leader and vice president Tarun Sharma said a significant part of the savings made from reduced power bills will be applied to the company’s corporate social responsibility projects.
BMC partnered with Hanul Technologies to identify 23 households near the Sakur village in Sangamner Taluka of Ahmednagar district to launch the first project.
BMC is planning to complete the replacement of the lamps in its facilities within the next six months.
