The HRS is the principal mechanism EPA uses to place uncontrolled waste sites on the NPL that consists of approximately 1,280 abandoned hazardous waste sites that pose long-term threats to human health and the environment via contamination in ground water, surface water, soil or air.
Under this seven year contract including a two-year base period, one three-year option period and two one-year award periods, CSC will provide the EPA with technical, logistical and information management support to evaluate hazardous waste sites throughout the US.
The contract will enable CSC to assist the EPA in identifying those sites that pose the highest relative threat to human health and the environment for further investigation and cleanup.
CSC president of North American Public Sector James Sheaffer said that this contract with the EPA will bring together geologists, chemists, biologists, statisticians and information analysts to develop innovative approaches to evaluate the hazardous waste sites.
