The project, which is funded by two state grants secured through the South Carolina Energy Office, will provide more than 200 publicly-accessible charging stations supplied by Eaton at municipal parking garages, public streets and participating retailers in seven South Carolina host cities.
The EV charging stations will offer one, two, or four charge points each, enabling the EV drivers to refuel their vehicles in 10 minutes and will feature two-way data communication and payment system options wherever possible for enhanced consumer convenience.
Plug In Carolina expects the network of EV charging stations to be operational by December 1, 2010, to support the variety of new EVs entering the market.
UPA CEO Michael Cale said that that the company is excited to join a distinguished group of industry leaders propelling South Carolina’s position as the first EV-ready state in the country.
