NorthLight Power will combine REC’s solar PV manufacturing experience with technical knowledge of Summit Power that has developed more than 7,000MW of electric power plants in the US, to build utility-scale solar project across the Western US.
NorthLight will engage in a full range of activities to develop projects at low cost by helping in securing suitable sites, permitting, establishing PPA contracts, grid interconnection, EPC management, and arranging project financing for both public and investor owned utilities.
NorthLight Power has recently signed a power purchase agreement with Pacific Gas & Electric Company to sell the output from 60MW North Star solar power plant that will be constructed with solar PV modules manufactured by REC, and is scheduled to be operational in 2013.
The implementation of the project that is expected to provide enough daytime power to serve about 40,000 homes is subject to approval by the California Public Utilities Commission.
REC Systems senior vice president Terje Pilskog said that through NorthLight Power, REC has established a strong partnership with Summit Power Group, a company with an excellent track record of developing large, clean energy projects in the US.
