The company will make an investment of JPY15bn to begin the mass production, covering everything from solar cells to solar modules at its solar cell plant in Green Front Sakai, located in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan.
This single crystalline solar cell with high conversion efficiency increases the light-receiving area on the front-side’s surface by using a Back Contact structure (electrodes are connected on the back-side), which eliminates the need for electrodes to be set on the front-side.
Sharp, which has also developed a new alignment technology (Alignment Sheet system), which reduces the connection resistance between adjacent cells, anticipates a broad range of applications for its new solar cells in the global market in the future, including residential and industrial use.
