The €120m ($162m) plant, which has taken 19 months to build, is expected to produce enough electricity to power some 28,000 homes.
The plant was built using the jack-up vessel MPI Discovery, which E.ON has exclusively chartered for the next six years. Vestas’ 16 V112-3MW turbines were installed at site.
In addition, E.ON is also building another 288MW offshore wind farm with a cost of €1bn ($1.35bn) in the German North Sea: Amrumbank West.
The plant, which is expected to be operational in 2015, will supply electricity to up to 300,000 households and save over 740,000 tons of CO2 per year.
