Obama announced over 300 private and public sector commitments to create jobs and cut carbon pollution by advancing solar deployment and energy efficiency.
The commitments represent over 850MW of solar deployed, enough to power about 130,000 homes, and energy efficiency investments that will reduce bills for more than 1 billion ft² of buildings.
The new executive actions are expected to lead to $2bn in energy efficiency investments in federal buildings.
The president’s new initiatives will help cut pollution by over 380 million metric tons of carbon, save businesses about $26bn on their energy bills by 2030.
Obama’s new executive actions to further support solar deployment include building a skilled solar workforce and providing innovative financing for deploying solar technology.
Obama urged private and public sector leaders to join the Better Buildings Challenge and continue improving the efficiency of American commercial, institutional, and multifamily buildings and industrial plants by 20% or more over the next decade.
