To be delivered by Xergi to Irish based renewable energy development firm Stream BioEnergy, the biogas plant will generate 3MW of electricity by processing up to 40,000 tonnes of chicken litter each year.
Located outside the town of Ballymena in Northern Ireland, the new facility will also be able to generate job opportunities, produce green energy as well as recycle nutrients, thereby benefitting the environment.
Power generated from the facility will be sold through the electricity network and is enough to met the electricity needs of 4,000 homes.
Xergi CEO Jørgen Ballermann said: "The plant will convert the chicken litter into biogas, which will be used to produce green electricity.
"At the same time the nutrients become an environmentally friendly fertiliser that can replace chemical fertiliser for farmers."
Scheduled to be commissioned by early 2018, the biogas project is co-financed by funds managed by Foresight Group and Invest Northern Ireland.
During peak construction period, the new facility is expected to create 30 jobs and a further 12 jobs upon entering service.
"Our new process combines knowhow and technology that has been developed over the last decade and it will provide a significant opportunity for the poultry industry not just in Northern Ireland but throughout the world," Ballermann noted.
