The Haiyang facility will house two nuclear plants, each deploying Westinghouse’s AP1000 reactor. Excavation for the first of the two plants will take approximately three months to create a hole 12m-deep that will house the nuclear reactor and turbine buildings.
The Westinghouse-Shaw consortium is working in partnership with State Nuclear Power Technology to construct four nuclear power facilities in China, all using AP1000 reactor technology.
