Well 34/8-13 S was then drilled 2.7 kilometers southeast of 34/8-13 A, and encountered a 20-metre oil column in the Brent group.
Communication probably exists between the oil zones in the two wells, and extensive data acquisition and sampling have been carried out on both wells.
The size of the discovery is between 0.9 and two million standard cubic meters (Sm3) of recoverable oil equivalents.
The licensees in the production license will consider producing the discovery via the Visund field.
The wells are the 21st and 22nd exploration wells in production license 120.
Well 34/8-13 A was drilled to a vertical depth of 3,108 meters below the sea surface and was terminated in the Statfjord formation in the lower Jurassic. Well 34/8-13 S was drilled to a vertical depth of 3,258 meters below the sea surface and was terminated in the Hegre group in the Triassic. The wells will be permanently plugged and abandoned.
Wells 34/8-13 A and 34/8-13 S were drilled at a water depth of 381 meters by the Scarabeo 5 drilling facility, which will now move to production license 199 in the Norwegian Sea to drill development wells on the Kristin field, operated by StatoilHydro.
The licensees in production license 120 Total E&P Norge AS 11%, ConocoPhillips Skandinavia AS 13%, Petoro AS 16.94% and StatoilHydro 59.06%.
