The well is the first exploration well in production license 483 S. The license was awarded on February 26, 2008 (APA 2007).
The well was drilled to a total vertical depth of 2,499 meters below the sea surface, and was terminated in upper Triassic rocks (Red Beds). The well will be permanently plugged and abandoned.
Well 6609/10-2 was drilled at a water depth of 265 meters by the drilling facility, Songa Delta which now will proceed to production license 375 in the North Sea to drill wildcat well 34/4-11 where Petro-Canada Norge AS is the operator.
The licensee in production license 483 S are Discover Petroleum AS 30%, Dana Petroleum Norway AS 30% and Det norske 40%.
