TI said that due to increased legislation and various implementation standards across the US and Europe, utilities are seeking compliant metering solutions that will meet energy efficiency guidelines.

The new MSP430F4xx devices are integrated solutions that can support standalone analog front-end (AFE) needs, said the company.

The company’s utility metering portfolio includes devices targeted at electricity, water and gas metering, as well as power line communications (PLC) and radio frequency (RF) interfaces for advanced meter infrastructure (AMI) that allow customers to design smart grid solutions.

The new MSP430 metering MCUs provide energy monitoring with tamper protection capabilities. The expanded metering portfolio will support a range of implementation standards with additions to the F471xx, Fx461x and F44x series of MCUs, the company said.
