The new facility is expected to enable BHEL to produce an additional 12,000MVA of transformers per annum. With this, the total installed transformer manufacturing capacity at BHEL’s Bhopal plant will go up to 30,000MVA per annum while the total capacity of BHEL including its Jhansi plant will go up to a phenomenal 45,000MVA.
The new UHV transformer block has a dust free and controlled atmosphere, air conditioned bays for winding works, pressurised bay for core building and final assembly, EOT cranes for lifting loads up to 450 tons, iso static pressing device for windings, air cushion transport system for movement of equipment & machinery, and attached UHV laboratory for testing transformers up to 1,200kV class.
BHEL has enhanced its manufacturing capacity to 10,000MW per annum and is further augmenting it to 15,000MW per annum which is proceeding apace and plans are afoot to hike it further to 20,000MW by 2011-12.
