Combined with its previous acquisition of a 57.7% interest, the Canadian energy firm will hold a 71.0% ownership interest in the project.

The Cabin gas plant, located 60km northeast of Fort Nelson in the Horn River basin, is currently under construction and is expected to commence operation in 2012.

The facility will have 400mmcf/d of natural gas processing capacity in its first phase, while Phase 2 will add an additional 400mmcf/d of capacity and is expected to be in-service in the third quarter 2014.

Upon completion of both the phases, Enbridge’s total investment is expected to be about $1.1bn.
