The amount will be utilized for construction, acquisition, or improvement of coal-fired and fossil-fueled electricity generating plants, which will capture and store their carbon dioxide emissions.

The new bill has also restored $161.5m to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) climate service, which was removed in the spending bill in June, reports BNA.

The Obama administration has supported the funding restoration saying that it would improve the performance of programs that are currently spread across several NOAA programs.
