The company said that the well, which was drilled in block LB-15 to a total depth of 5,400m, is being plugged and abandoned.

The well encountered good-quality, water-bearing sands in the main objective, and in a deeper secondary objective, about eight metres of hydrocarbon pay was intersected and a sample of light oil was recovered.

Tullow holds a 25% working interest in the licence, while Anadarko Petroleum (operator) and Repsol hold 47.5% and 27.5% interests, respectively.
