The project spans across two locations – a 20MW farm in Tacna that employs 75,306 modules on an area spanning 120ha while the second location is another 20MW farm Moqueua that employs 72,032 modules across a 123ha area.

Commenting on the installations Yingli Green Energy chairman and chief executive officer Liansheng Miao remarked that Peru was one of the important emerging markets in the region due to its strong solar potential and outlined the company’s expansion plans for the market.

"By supplying modules for this project and by leveraging our sponsorship of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, we are paving the way for substantial expansion throughout South America," said Miao.

The project is expected to be in operation at the end of 2012 and will generate enough energy to power 67,000 households in the region per annum while 24,000 tons of CO2.
