Informally referred to as Carioca Norte, the fourth well is located in block BM-S-9 of assessment area 1-BRSA-491-SPS, at a water depth of 2,152m, and 275 km off the coast of São Paulo.
The well was drilled to the total depth of 5,576m and it has confirmed the presence of light oil in the Carioca region, which had already been confirmed by wells 1-BRSA-491-SPS (discovery), 3-BRSA-861-SPS (Carioca Nordeste) and 3-BRSA-1023-SPS (Carioca Sela).
The company has collected the fluid samples and through tests it shows that the oil is similar to the one found in other wells of the area.
In the consortium of block BM-S-9, Petrobras owns a 45% stake and is the operator of the project. The other partners, BG E&P Brasil (30%) and Repsol Sinopec Brasil (25%) hold the remaining interest in the project.
The company said, the consortium will proceed with the activities and investments necessary to appraisal the area, according to the Appraisal Plan approved by the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency.
