Under the contract, the company will now undertake the deployment of a fully grid connected 4MW tidal array scheduled to be ready by late 2015.
The array will comprise two 2.0MW commercial scale turbines, which are expected to supply energy to over 1,000 customers in Nova Scotia.
DCNS Energies and Marine Infrastructure senior vice president Thierry Kalanquin said the project represents an important step in building a local tidal energy industry in Nova Scotia and a next step in the development of commercial tidal farms in the region.
