Since the beginning of March 2014, the Raptor-1 is the third exploration well that has been drilling in Papua New Guinea.
InterOil said that the well will be drilled to a total depth of around 4500m.
Raptor is located around 20km south-west of Wabo in the Gulf province, while the other two exploration wells that are commenced with drilling are Bobcat-1, situated about 20km north of Raptor-1 and Wahoo-1, which is approximately 180km south-east of Raptor-1.
Across almost 4 million acres in the south of the country, the company plans to drill up to five additional exploration and appraisal wells in the coming 12-15 months.
InterOil has undeveloped gas fields, Elk-Antelope, in the Gulf province and exploration licences with about 16,000m², as well as Papua New Guinea’s only oil refinery.
