The Apiacás hydoro electric complex, located in the state of Mato Grosso, will have an installed capacity of 102MW .
Featuring seven turbines of around 14.5MW each, the hydro complex will comprise a cascading sequence of the Salto Apiacás, Cabeza de Boi and Fazenda power plants.
The complex will be completed and enter operation in the first half of 2016, while it requires an investment of around $287m.
The project is supported by a 30-year power purchase agreement.
After completion, the Apiacás hydro complex will be able to generate approximately 490GWh each year.
Enel Green Power said that a thin-film PV facility, with 1.2MW capacity, will be installed to reduce power consumption on the construction site. Once the hydro complex is operational, the PV plant will continue to operate and add its output.
Currently, the company has around 210MW of installed capacity in Brazil, of which 93MW is from hydro and the remainder wind.
