The company also commenced the assessment process to establish the wind farm that will employ a total of 15 turbines.
An environmental impact assessment and the partial local master plan process are expected to begin in January 2013, with the plant projected to achieve grid connection in 2015.
Finland had earlier marked the project area as a wind power production area under a regional development plan.
Ilmatar COO Mikko Toivanen noted that the Alajärvi area is ideal for harnessing wind power.
"The area has earlier been used for extraction of peat, due to which environmental factors of the area have earlier been reviewed in a comprehensive way.
"The City of Alajärvi, together with the municipalities of Soini and Vimpeli, has taken an active role in developing their areas for wind power production through, among others, zoning," added Toivanen.
This project advances the company’s goal to take Finland’s wind generation capacity to 300MW by 2016.
