FutureGen Alliance board chairman Steve Winberg said that the alliance is pleased that DOE and Senator Durbin have been able to preserve the $1bn in funding for advancing clean coal technologies and the associated jobs.
The alliance is expected to initiate a 12-month project definition phase to verify DOE’s estimated cost for the project and to begin the site selection process.
“We will be rapidly developing the criteria for the new site, based on the guidelines provided by DOE and prior work done by the Alliance,” Winberg said.
In the coming weeks, DOE, State of Illinois, Ameren, Babcock & Wilcox, Air Liquide and the Alliance will develop a plan for the restructured project.
