GSE Systems has been awarded a contract to engineer and construct Westinghouse AP1000 nuclear power plant simulator models for Scana Corporation's VC Summer Plant site located in South Carolina.

This is the second AP1000 simulator contract in the US, according to the company.

As per this contract, the company will develop simulator models that are specific to the unique characteristics of the VC Summer plant site.

On 30 July 2009, the company was awarded a contract to build simulation models to assist Westinghouse with the AP1000 design finalization, which formed the basis for the domestic AP1000 plant simulator designs.

John Moran, GSE CEO John Moran said that besides Southern Company and Scana, eleven additional US customers have selected the AP1000 as the basis for their planned new nuclear plant construction.

"As the nuclear renaissance continues to slowly gather momentum here in the US, we expect to see additional AP1000 opportunities," Moran said.
