Sudan is expected to buy 100MW of electricity from the 6,000MW Grand Renaissance hydro project, which is being developed in Ethiopia.

Upon completion in 2017, the project is said to be largest project in Africa.

A work on a 45km power line between eastern Sudan’s Kassala state to Eritrea, has already been started by Sudanese Electricity Transmission Company.

In December 2013, Sudan and Ethiopia had inaugurated a cross-border power transmission link to empower regional electricity firms in Eritrea, Egypt, Djibouti, Somalia and South Sudan.
