Based on Nevada’s Public Utilities Commission contract approval, the system will be constructed by 2015.
SunPower president regions Howard Wenger said the company constructed 14MW plant in 2007 at Nellis Air Force Base for over nine months.
"Today, we can install more than one megawatt per day at our larger power plant sites, creating long-term value for our utility customers and competing effectively with traditional energy sources," Wenger added.
NV Energy renewable energy and origination vice president Stacey Kusters said partnership with SunPower is a key component for NV Energy’s effort to achieve renewable energy goals at a competitive cost.
"NV Energy looks forward to the opportunity to bring more clean, renewable energy to power facilities and military operations at Nellis Air Force Base," Kusters added.
SunPower will build a SunPower Oasis power plant system, which is a fully integrated, modular solar power block designed to rapidly and cost-effectively deploy utility-scale solar projects while optimizing land use, at the site.
The US Environmental Protection Agency estimates that the plant, upon completion, will offset the annual production of almost 27,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
