EDF retains a 10% holding in Light, with the remaining 10.6 % being traded on the Brazilian stock market. This transaction follows EDF’s announcement in 2005 of its decision to seek a strategic partner in a position to secure the future of Light.
This deal is also in keeping with EDF’s strategic development plan, which aims at refocusing the group’s activities on Europe.
Light is one of the main electricity distribution companies in Brazil, serving 3.8 million customers in the state of Rio de Janeiro. It also operates hydro electricity generation capacity with 850MW of installed capacity. EDF became a shareholder of this company in 1996.
