FARS News Agency cited Owladi as saying in oil ministry’s website that the plant can quadruple its production if it receives the necessary feedstock from phases 15 and 16 of the massive offshore South Pars gas field.
Kavian Petrochemical Plant’s first train is working at 50%, Owladi said adding that the second train is currently under the pre-commissioning stage.
The plant is ready to receive more ethane from South Pars in order to increase its production up to one million tons a year of ethylene.
In 2014, the South Pars gas field’s phases 15 and 16 are likely to produce 100 million cubic meters per day (mcm/d) of gas.
The Kavian petrochemical plant is one of the Iran’s largest ethylene producers.
