GDF Suez confirmed that it had held preliminary discussions regarding a potential cashless combination of International Power and certain international assets of GDF Suez. However, no agreement was reached between International Power and GDF Suez.

The two companies had been in discussions over a tie-up involving their foreign assets to create an electricity generation group. Under the plans for the transaction, which was never formalized, GDF Suez would have had a majority share in the created group, while International Power would have managed the venture, Financial Times reported.

International Power said that ‘discussions are no longer ongoing’. International Power is an independent electricity generating company with 32,358MW gross in operation and 3,320MW gross under construction.
