Business Standard cited Fortum India managing director Sanjay Agarwal as saying that: "We will look at acquisition of hydro power plants. There are a very few proper assets to acquire.

"We are vendor and technology neutral. Our only contention is that the rules of the game can’t be changed when the sector is about to take-off."
About 26% of the company’s total global generation capacity of 15,128MW is hydro-based, although its core expertise is in heat-based power generation.
In addition to acquiring 5MW solar power plant in Rajasthan in 2013, the company bid for 10MW in the phase 2, second batch of Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission in January 2014.
Fortum aims to build a small photo-voltaic (PV) solar portfolio to gain experiences in different solar technologies and operating in the Indian power market.
