The new license will expire in January 2034, and the decision to renew the license comes after safety and environmental reviews of the application submitted in September 2008 by the plant’s owner and operator, Nebraska Public Power District.
The power station, which began commercial operation in 1972, is a boiling-water nuclear reactor located 23 miles south of Nebraska City.
According to NRC, the Cooper power plant license represents the 60th reactor license renewed by the commission.
