On-Ramp will use the grant to develop and demonstrate a wireless grid sensor and faulted circuit indicator capable of monitoring underground and other distribution circuit locations from a fixed installed network by utilizing its Ultra-Link Processing (ULP) wireless communication system.
On-Ramp will collaborate with two western utilities to conduct the project for developing a system that will help utilities manage tens of thousands of distribution grid sensors, above and below ground, in a given service area and reduce time to isolate, repair and restore service to consumers.
On-Ramp has got the grant following the execution of a field test with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) in which, Wireless Sensors for Overhead Lines from SEL were combined with On-Ramp’s integrated ULP system to monitor and report real-time fault indication and condition data.
On-Ramp president and CEO Joaquin Silva said that this project demonstrates the traction On-Ramp is having with large utilities, many of which have been looking for a wireless system to effectively connect underground sensors.
