The project commenced the construction recently, and is expected to be completed during the second half of 2011.
The BP Solar project will be located in Suffolk County, New York, on approximately 200 acres of the US Department of Energy’s Brookhaven National Laboratory property.
The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) selected BP Solar to develop the project and nearly all of the output will be sold to LIPA and its customers under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
This solar photovoltaic project involves the installation of approximately 164,312 solar panels (220W), which will be arranged in 24 panel sub-arrays set on steel posts or piles arranged in rows and drilled into the ground.
The electricity generated by the solar facility will be stepped up by means of a transformer from 13.8kV to 69kV and transmitted via an underground line to a nearby LIPA substation prior to entering the LIPA grid.
