The well is currently at a depth of 20,471ft and Mainland said it will promptly resume drilling.
The core will be transported to the Houston, Texas, facilities of Core Lab Petroleum Services to initiate a core analysis.
Specifically, information related to volumes of gas in place within the matrix, porosity, permeability, gas quality, mineralogy and total organic content will be directly analyzed from the full core utilizing industry leading technology, the company said.
Mainland is currently drilling ahead of schedule and anticipates that it will reach the programmed depth of 22,000ft in early January 2011.
Mainland COE Nick Atencio said that the data extracted from this core can have material implications with respect to prospectivity within the company’s acreage and can possibly shape the industry’s perspective of the Haynesville Shale in Mississippi.
