Powered by two GE Frame 9FA gas turbine-generators, the power plant will have more than 768MW of additional generating capacity by 2012.
Under a 15-year contractual service agreement, GE will supply parts, services and repairs for the gas turbines to help promote a high degree of availability and performance, the company said.
GMR Energy CEO Raaj Kumar said that with India’s energy demand expected to more than double by 2030, there is a pressing need to increase the efficiency and reliability of the country’s power production.
"By teaming up with GE, one of the world’s leading suppliers of power generation technology and services, we are positioning the Vemagiri plant to make a long-term, significant contribution to a modern and efficient Indian energy infrastructure," Kumar said.
