The Ausra acquisition, announced in early February 2010, serves as the platform for building Areva’s global concentrated solar power business. Areva earlier said that it will leverage and reinforce Ausra’s team to strengthen its global solar business unit.

Robert Fishman, former CEO and chairman of Ausra, said: “Power generation and industrial steam customers can count on Areva to deliver the most cost-effective, land-efficient and water-conservative technology, backed by its financial strength and worldwide market presence.”

Ausra designs, develops, manufactures and installs solar steam generators. The company’s compact linear fresnel reflector (CLFR) solar steam generators are designed for existing fossil-fired plants, new standalone solar and solar/fossil hybrid plants, and a diverse range of industrial customers.
