At other RWE npower’s wind farm sites the community fund has supported projects such as refurbishing community buildings, environmental education programmes, energy efficiency schemes and donations to local groups and organisations.
Independent charity is also setting up a steering group of local representatives to assess applications and make decisions about how the money is allocated. The steering group will consist of up to nine members, seven of them living in the local communities which will benefit form the fund.
The other two members will represent Nidderdale Area of Outstanding National Beauty and Harrogate and Area Council for voluntary services.
Katy Woodington, Community Benefits Officer at RWE npower, says: “The Community Fund provides a great opportunity for local groups and organisations to access money which will be administered by local people, for their community.”

Stephen Beyer from the York and North Yorkshire Community Foundation explained: “We will be advertising the places on the steering group through parish council publications, notice boards and voluntary sector networks.
“Any one interested will need to complete an application form and the steering group will be appointed by the Foundation in association with Harrogate and Area Council for Voluntary Services.”
