To encourage its customers to take concrete steps to conserve energy and fight climate change, PSE&G has announced that it will distribute 100,000 energy efficient light bulbs throughout its service territory.

Under the utility’s ‘Switch and Save’ campaign, customers who visit the company’s 16 customer service centers will be given an Energy Star certified compact fluorescent light bulb.

Ralph Izzo, chairman and CEO, said: While climate change is a global problem, there are steps that each of us can take to make a difference for the environment. Small steps do add up. We hope the distribution of 100,000 energy-saving light bulbs will boost energy conservation in New Jersey. And we believe that utilities like PSE&G need to be centrally involved for conservation to gain traction.

The utility has also filed a proposal with the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to invest more than $100 million during the next two years to help finance the installation of solar systems on homes, businesses and municipal buildings.

When all of these measures, including the use of the light bulbs, are implemented, they would reportedly account for a reduction of about 400,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions during the next decade.
