The first licensing round has already been announced, where four Japanese companies have been prequalified, and many companies are studying the opportunities to invest.
Jogmec has been instrumental in conducting joint studies with the ministry as well as providing training programs for over 1000 Iraqi experts. Jogmec’s prequalification in the second round paves the way for its direct participation in Iraq’s oil and gas development projects. Jogmec will join forces with eligible Japanese companies to seek opportunities to contribute in the expansion of oil output in Iraq.
The prequalification for the first bidding round was announced in January 2008 by Iraq’s oil ministry and 120 companies were reported to have applied. 35 companies including four Japanese companies were announced as qualified in April 2008. The second prequalification was announced in December 2008 and 38 companies applied. Nine companies have been prequalified including Jogmec.
