
Under the contract, ABB will design, engineer, supply and install the AC power transmission cable system which will connect Butendiek offshore wind farm in the German North Sea, to Tennet’s high voltage direct current (HVDC) converter platform SylWin alpha.
The Butendiek wind farm is located around 30km off the island of Sylt, Germany.
ABB is scheduled to install and commission the 3-core 155kVAC submarine cable, approximately 38km long, in 2015.
The cable system can transmit 144MW of wind power, which is enough to meet the electricity needs of approximately 150.000 German households.

"We have a vast array of technologies and considerable experience in this domain and are pleased to support TenneT with this fast track project.
Currently, ABB is implementing the Sandbank AC cable link, which connects an offshore wind farm to the SylWin alpha HVDC converter platform.
Till date, the company commissioned more than 10 AC cable projects world for offshore wind projects.
