Upon completion, the $546m circulating-fluidized-bed coal-fired power generation facility is expected to boost power supply to the major cities of Mindanao except Zamboanga and would supply the power required for 22 power cooperatives across Mindanao, reports Philippines Information Agency.
Aboitiz Power corporate communications manager Willy Rodolfo said: "It’s about 90% complete and we’re right on schedule.
The company would commence testing of the power within a few months, Rodolfo said.
"Testing means practically running the plant but not on a continuous basis."
Franchise areas under Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC) will receive 100MW of power generated from the facility, as part of a contract.
AboitizPower is planning to invest PHP80bn to increase its power generation capacity by 2,000MW in the next five years.
