Under the terms of the agreement, four power units with VVER reactors, the Russian version of the Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR), will be constructed on the site of Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant in Iran on the turn-key terms.
The two countries will also cooperate in the construction of four similar power units at another site in Iran.
Rosatom will be responsible for the entire construction of nuclear power units in Iran, including equipment and nuclear fuel supplies and will ensure the units meet the nuclear nonproliferation regime.
Additionally, Russia will provide training for Iranian specialists in operation, servicing and corresponding engineering support of NPPs as well as in the field of regulation of nuclear and radiation safety.
Russia will also be responsible for reprocessing and storage of spent nuclear fuel.
The two parties also intend to cooperate in the field of the nuclear fuel cycle and ecology.
A contract for construction of two power units of Bushehr Phase II has also been signed by NIAEP-ASE and Nuclear Power Production and Development Company of Iran (NPPD).
The agreements will ensure the maximum possible participation of enterprises and organizations of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
