EDP said that the portfolio of projects acquired has a total gross capacity of 1,022MW in different stages of development. The first wind farm with 120MW of installed capacity is expected to start operations in 2009. Supply of turbines for this wind park has already been secured. The remaining capacity is expected to come online between 2010 and 2013.
The Portuguese electricity utility said that Poland is one of the countries in central and eastern Europe with high growth potential in the renewable energies sector. It expects around 10.4% of the country’s energy needs to be met by renewable sources between 2010 and 2014. This represents around 4,000MW of wind capacity in 2014.
