The company will replace an existing transmission line with a higher capacity line and install new equipment at two substations to cater for the higher capacity line.
The company said that it will construct a new 220kV transmission line that would link Transend’s Waddamana substation with its substation near Risdon Vale to replace an old 110kV line between Waddamana and Bridgewater.
Richard Bevan, managing director of Transend, said: Over the past few years, we have done a lot of work to improve the security and increase the capacity of the transmission system in southern Tasmania. But we need to do more to keep pace with the anticipated demand for electricity especially on Hobart’s eastern shore. The project will take three years to complete and we anticipate having the new line in service by the end of 2010.
