The well in Block 28/9 struck 22ft of net hydrocarbon pay in a Tay sandstone interval having reached total depth of 5990ft, with 12ft of gas in an upper section and and 10ft of 24 degree-API oil in the lower part.
Based on the drilling results, the license partnership has decided to drill an immediate sidetrack from the Burgman well.
However, the Cromarty and Fulmar sections were not hydrocarbon-bearing at this location, the company said.
A gas oil contact was calculated at 3,560ft and the oil water contact at 3,980ft true vertical depth sub sea, giving a gross gas column of at least 78ft and a gross oil column of around 420ft.
EnCore is operator of Block 28/9 with a 15% stake, with partners Premier Oil holding 35%, Wintershall with 20%, Nautical Petroleum 15% and Agora Oil & Gas 15%.
