The commencement of the initial well in the program aims to ensure a consistent gas flow to the domestic market and the Atlantic LNG export facility.
BG Trinidad & Tobago president Garvin Goddard said: "With Starfish coming on stream in our 25th year of operating in the country, this is a great demonstration of our ongoing commitment to the safe and responsible development of natural gas resources.
"Starfish also shows our capability to deliver complex offshore projects. We look forward to our next period of growth and continuing our contribution to the economy of the country."
Located about 50 miles offshore, the field, located in the East Coast Marine Area of Trinidad, is linked to the 3,000t Dolphin platform.
BG Group operates the East Coast Marine Area with a 50% equity interest, while Chevron Trinidad and Tobago Resources owns the remaining 50% stake.
The company is active in more than 20 countries and employs about 5,200 people.
