Cassidy, a skillful senior financial executive, has more than 20 years of wide restructuring, capital and debt market experience with multi-national companies including Bow Valley Energy, UTS Energy, Household International, Emtech Ltd. and Procter and Gamble. Recently, he served as CFO of Bow Valley Energy, where he directed negotiations with the international bank syndicate and creditors for restructuring the company’s credit facilities, and navigated the company through a successful strategic assessment process and company sale. At UTS Energy, Cassidy planned, defined and arranged financing for Compton Petroleum’s interests as it changed its focus from a varied natural resources investor to the development of the Fort Hills oil sands project. His career also included completing the structuring and financing of Signet Energy and the strategic refocusing of Household Financial Corporation.
In his new role, Cassidy will lead Compton Petroleum’s financial restructuring efforts, develop corporate reporting and stewardship and play an active role in the development of the organization’s strategic direction. Cassidy received Honours Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the Wilfrid Laurier University, holds a chartered financial analyst designation, and is a chartered accountant.
Additionally, Susan J. Soprovich, CMA, has joined the company as director, investor relations, to lead Compton Petroleum’s communications strategy and direction. Soprovich brings proficiency through her experience in both corporate and consulting capacities. Recently, she was VP, investor relations and corporate governance at Bankers Petroleum Ltd. where she was accountable for the strategic direction of the company’s international investor and public relations, and regulatory activities. Prior to Bankers, Soprovich was employed in ever more senior roles at different resource companies which includes Fording Canadian Coal Trust, Cavell Energy, Gulf Canada Resources and PanCanadian Petroleum. Soprovich received Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Manitoba, and is the author of The Canadian IR practitioner column in the Canadian investor relations institute’s national publication.
