Under the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) contract totaling E23 million, Areva will design, engineer, manufacture and supply a power transformer package for the Indira Gandhi thermal power project, which is rated at 3x500MW. The power project is located in Jhajjar, in the Indian state of Haryana.
The project has been granted mega power project status by the Indian government. It is also reportedly the largest single order awarded for power transformers in India.
Under the E18 million contract signed with Powergrid, Areva will upgrade the sub-transmission systems in the state of Bihar by extending the existing substations and building additional 33kV bays.
