Mr Flexon replaces Raymond Milchovich as chief executive officer. Mr Milchovich will remain as non-executive chairman of the board of directors and will serve as a consultant to the company through November 3, 2011.
Mr Flexon said, “As I begin my tenure as CEO of Foster Wheeler, my vision for the company is to build upon our legacy of competitive differentiation, technical excellence and first-tier commercial/execution capabilities while furthering our global reach and services portfolio. Our company has an exceptionally bright future.”
Mr Flexon had most recently served as president and chief executive officer of Foster Wheeler USA. Prior to joining the company in November 2009, he had been executive vice president and chief financial officer of NRG Energy, a wholesale power generation company primarily engaged in the ownership and operation of power generation facilities and the sale of energy, capacity and related products.
He had also served as a member of the Foster Wheeler board of directors from 2006 until November 2009, and was re-elected to the board of directors on May 5, 2010 for a two-year term.
